Because of the great of experience VDM often is asked for solving untraditional problems.
The tail-bridge is a variation of a conventional rolling bascule-bridge. By placing a bearing in the centre of the rolling quarter of the rolling bascule-bridge, this tail-bridge of minimum maintenance was created. It is a bascule-bridge with high positioned counter weights. This invention is protected by patent. VDM is assigning the rights per project by licence to the new owner of the bridge.
VDM was asked to develop a lock in a situation that the dike had to be uninterrupted. The solution for this problem was a shiplift with a water filled dock. The dock is mounted over ramp layers or a fly-over by using a central right and left bearing with an electronic drive. With that drive the swinging of the dock can be controlled. The shiplift moves horizontally and vertically. A dry shiplift is possible too. If necessary the layers are made hollow for water transport from the one canal to the other. When the length of the dock is greater than 100 meters the dock is hanged at cable stays which are at the top fastened at the two central bearings. In some cases the dock can be balanced with counterweights.
This invention is protected by international patent. VDM is assigning the rights per project by licence to the new owner of the shiplift.
